Genetic Counseling

Genetic counselors are a wonderful resource when navigating the confusing and overwhelming world of carrier screening and prenatal diagnostic testing. Genetic counselors are non-directive healthcare professionals that help you understand your options.

Genetic counselors are often more familiar with screening guidelines and procedures than primary care doctors or obstetricians due to their training. He/She is your point person throughout the process to help you understand what tests are available and how the results will impact you, your children, and your extended family.

Depending on your health insurance, you may need a referral before visiting a genetic counselor. Most insurance companies will cover your genetic counseling appointment. Genetic counselors can also help you to obtain insurance authorization for carrier screening.
